Bio

Samuel W. Sowers was born December 11, 1835, in Clear Spring, Washington County, Maryland, the son of Frederick and Mary A. Brewer Sowers. Circa 1859, he married Sarah A. Kreps, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Newcomer Kreps. They were the parents of 6 children: Millard Fillmore, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Winter, Jackie (died young), Jacob Frederick and Daisy A. Sowers. Samuel passed away on September 17, 1929, in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, and was buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Clear Spring. Death notice for Samuel W. Sowers from the Hagerstown Morning Herald of September 18, 1929: "Samuel W. Sowers, Sr., died at his home, 535 West Howard Street, yesterday, aged 93 years. He was a miller and farmer his entire life."
