Daughter of Frank and Katie (Novak) Fredlick. Stepdaughter of Mary Frederick and sister of Marie (Fredlick) Styskal and Frank Fredlick . Married (1) Joseph Kucera on September 22, 1885 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. Married (2) Matej Simerka on January 7, 1914 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. SHIMERKA Funeral Services Were Held in Abie Saturday Morning Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Shimerka, who died shortly after midnight May 1 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Janak, near Bellwood, from infirmities of old age after illness of three months, were held Saturday morning, May 3. Short services were conducted at the Patterson and Knott funeral home in David City by Rev. Father Hennessey and from there to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Abie at 10 a.m. The pallbearers, grandsons of the deceased, were Joseph Cihal, Arnold Hoskovec, James and Frank Cermak, Emil Novak and James Polak. Interment was in Abie Catholic cemetery. Barbara Fredrick [ sic ], twin daughter of Jakub and Katie Fredrick [ sic ] was born at Lacrosse, Wis., June 16, 1870, and at time of her death was aged 70 years, 5 months and 16 days. She was married in 1885 to Joseph Kucera. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kucera, of whom two died in infancy. The surviving children are Joseph of Waukegan, Ill., Jim of David City, Mary, Mrs. Anton Eret of Prague, Anna, Mrs. John Eret of Bruno, Ludmila, Mrs. Joe Pelak of Bruno, Rosie, Mrs. William Hoskovec of Bellwood, Frank of David City, Louis of Ulysses, Katie, Mrs. Ernest Fricke of Rising City, and Molly, Mrs. Albert Janak of near Bellwood. Mr. Kucera died December 28, 1911. On February 14, 1914, Mrs. Kucera was married to Matej Shimerka, who died in June, 1916. Besides her children, Mrs. Shimerka leaves 36 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one brother, Frank Fredrick [ sic ] of David City, and one half-sister, Mrs. Rosa Arnt of Winona, Minn. Mrs. Shimerka spent most of her life in Butler county and had many friends. ____ Card of thanks - We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone for their helpfulness at time of death of our mother, particularly to Father O'Connor, Father Hennessey and Father Kuska, also Dr. Matheny, and for the spiritual offerings and flowers.
