Born in the village of Drozdovice, town of Hrotovice, county of Brno, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). His marriage record names his parents as Frank Benesch and Elizabeth [Olssoba?] [an undocumented family tree on FamilySearch states it was Osolsobie]. According to the 1900 census he was born in Austria in April 1852 and emigrated to the United States in 1876. Farmed in Linwood township, Butler County, Nebr. (1880 census) and later in Bone Creek township (1900 and 1910 census records). Married Marie Proskovec on November 3, 1877 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. _______________________ Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), April 29, 1915, p. 1, col. 6 LIVED IN COUNTY MANY YEARS John Benesch Died at His Home Near Octavia April 25. OCTAVIA, April 27 - John Benesch, for many years residing in Butler county, passed away at his home 2½ miles southeast of Octavia Sunday evening, after illness of several months. His death was from cancer of the stomach. Mr. Benesch was 63 years of age. The funeral services were held in Sts. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church in Abie on Tuesday morning, April 27, and were conducted by Rev. Father Nemec. Mr. Benesch had been a member of that church for many years and up to the time of his death. There was large attendance of friends at the funeral and there were many floral offerings. Mr. Benesch was a member of the Octavia A. O. U. W. lodge, and the pall bearers were from the membership of that lodge. They were Charles E. and V. D. Davenport, John Evans, J. K. Fortna, A. B Garfield and George Hahn, Sr. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Abie. Born in Austria April 26, 1852, Mr. Benesch came to the United States some 40 years ago and had lived in Nebraska and Butler county most of that time. He is survived by Mrs. Benesch and ten children, five sons and five daughters. The children, in order of age, are: E. A. Benesch, residing in Polk county, near Shelby; Mrs. Clara Sobota, wife of Joseph Sobota, residing in Schuyler; Otto Benesch, living near Walthill; Mrs. Ellen Kovar, wife of Frank Kovar, residing near David City; Mrs. Mary Shimerka, wife of Joseph Shimerka, residing near Walthill; Miss Ella Benesch, teaching in the Abie schools; John J. Benesch, living on the home farm near Octavia; Miss Martha Benesch, teaching near David City; Lewis and Joseph Benesch, living on the home farm. Mr. Benesch had $2000 life insurance in the A. O. U.
