CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Velma Pearl Hankinson, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 5, 1927, in Cumberland, Mrs. Hankinson was the daughter of the late John Edgar Bennett and Cotelle (Burkhart) Bennett). She was also preceded in death by a brother, killed in action during World War II, Floyd Bennett; and a sister, Evelyn Galliher. A homemaker, Velma was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church and the Bluebird Club. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward Wayne Hankinson; her sons, Dale Hankinson and wife, Tina, Cumberland; and David W. Hankinson and wife, Donna, Fairhope, Ala.; her brother, Dale Bennett and wife, Teresa, Newport Ritchie, Fla.; her sisters, Marian Sherren, Newark, Del.; and Dor-othy Haese, Columbia, S.C.; her grandsons, Drew Hankinson and Ali Komestakes, Monticello, Ga.; and Dustin Hankinson and wife, Melissa, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and her great grandson, Cade Hankinson. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD, (www. AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m., to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at 10 a.m, with the Rev. Diehl officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, 1850 York Road, Suite D, and Timonium, MD 21093.
