Bio

Hardy Jones was born January 23, 1877 in Miller, Missouri (Lawrence County), son of John Henry Jones (1847- ) and Nancy Henderson Wakefield (1850- ). The 1880 Federal Census for Lincoln, Missouri (Lawrence County) shows Hardy Jones, age 3, born in Missouri; living with his father, J. H. Jones, a farmer, age 33, born in Georgia; and his mother Nancy H., age 30, born in Georgia. Also living in the household were Hardy's siblings: Orpha Jones, age 13; Henry Jones, age 10; Houston Jones, age 8; Gertie Jones, age 5, and Pearlie Jones, age 6 months; all born in Missouri. Hardy married Edna E. Childress, born August 21, 1879 in Kennedale, Texas (Tarrant County), daughter of Asbury McDonald 'Mack' Childress and Susan Hudson. The 1910 Federal Census for Fort Worth Ward 12, Texas(Tarrant County) shows Hardy Jones, a laborer, age 33, born in Missouri; and his wife, Edna, age 31, born in Texas. Living with them were Edna's children by a former marriage: Olan Harris, age 11; and Fay Harris, age 8; both born in Texas; as well as Hardy and Edna's son, Paul Jones, age 4 months, born in Texas. In addition, Edna's father, MacDonald Childress, a widower and a carpenter, age 62, born in Texas; was living with the family. The 1920 Federal Census for Albany, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Hardy Jones, a farmer, age 42, born in Missouri; and his wife, Edna, age 41, born in Texas. Living with them were three children: Paul Jones, age 10, born in Texas; Lois Jones, age 7, born in Texas; and Mildred Jones, age 1 year 8 months, born in Oklahoma. Also living in the household were Edna's children by a former marriage: Olen Harris, age 21; and Fay Harris, age 18; both born in Texas. Hardy died July 8, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas (Tarrant County) and was buried in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) in the Highland Cemetery. Edna died May 24, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas (Tarrant County) and was buried in Durant in Highland Cemetery beside her husband.
