Bio

Leo B. Schievelbein, age 84, died Monday, October 11, 2004 at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born on July 19, 1920 in Gosper County, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Emma (Sydow) Schievelbein. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Gosper County, Nebraska. He attended school at Immanuel Parochial School. After school he served in the Army. After his service duty he returned to Gosper County to farm. On June 3, 1945 he married Leona J. Haussler at St. Matthews Church of rural Arapahoe, Nebraska. They farmed for a number of years before moving to Arapahoe in 1966. He would then work for Eliason Grain Co. and then do construction work for IBS of Elwood, Nebraska, and Stagemeyer Construction of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He also would do general construction work on his own for a number of years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John Wendland, Arthur, Rhienhart and Glen Schievelbein and grandson Alan Tyler. Survivors include wife: Leona Schievelbein of Arapahoe, Nebraska; sons: Les Schievelbein of Norton, Kansas, Gary and wife Cathy Schievelbein of Arapahoe, Nebraska, Bill Schievelbein of Lincoln, Nebraska, Leon and wife Crystal Schievelbein of Arapahoe, Nebraska and Robert Schievelbein of Goddard, Kansas; daughters: Karen and husband Larry Kohtz of York, Nebraska and Cathy Tyler of Mc-Cool Junction, Nebraska; sister: Irene Stagemeyer of Holbrook, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. Carl Lilienkamp, officiating. Active pallbearers are Neal Gehring, Alan Schievelbein, Greg Schievelbein, Mike Thomas, Terry Thomas and Wes Tyler. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Anderson, Edwin Bloch, LaVerne Hermes, Keith Maaske, Irlee Stagemeyer and Owen Stagemeyer. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska with military rites given by the American Legion Post #343 of Edison, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe is in charge of the arrangements.
