Leona Josephine Schievelbein, age 97, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. Leona was born on the family farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska on January 12, 1926, to Christoph Julius and Alvina Katherine (Walter) Haussler. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1943. After graduation, she taught in a rural school for two years northwest of Holbrook. She married Leo B. Schievelbein on June 3, 1945, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church of rural Arapahoe. They made their home on a farm northeast of Arapahoe until moving into Arapahoe in 1966. She worked for a short time at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Leona went to work for Becton Dickinson of Holdrege, Nebraska. She retired after working there for 12 years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and was a member of the LWML. She volunteered for many years at the Mission Mall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, son William (Bill), grandson Alan Tyler, one brother, Hugo Haussler; sisters, Margaret McCullogh, Katherine Brennan, Wilma Pauline Taylor, Helen Gehring and Mildred Snider; eight brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law..
