Bio

Ellen Lora Spear 1917 ~ 2004 Ellen Lora Spear died quietly Saturday, October 16, 2004 in Salt Lake City after a short, sudden bout with cancer. Lora was born March 8, 1917 to Howard L. and Priscilla Duffin and lived in Salt Lake City all of her life. She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. Twice married and divorced, she was a devoted single parent in a time much less supportive than today. Lora was bright, independent, iron-willed and possessed a wry sense of humor. A dedicated employee with an uncompromising work ethic, Lora had a career of increasing responsibility from bookkeeper, credit and office manager to accountant and corporate secretary. She loved travel and playing the piano and organ. Throughout her life Lora made great sacrifices for her loved ones and was known for her generosity to her family. She is survived by her son, Derek C. Kaufman, and his partner, Luiz A. Manzo; grandchildren, Bryan Derek and Johanna M. Kaufman; her brother, Vaughn H. Duffin; and nieces, Lisa Johnson and Pamela Call. She was preceded in death by her sister, Melba Duffin. Funeral services for Lora will be held Wednesday October 20, 2004, 2 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and again Wednesday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment, Murray City Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Holbrook Mortuary. Published in Salt Lake Tribune from October 18 to October 19, 2004
