Marshfield News Herald, Sat. Nov. 20, 2004, p. A4. AUBURNDALE-Sylvester R. Haupt, 74, of 5847 Third St., Auburndale, died at 11 a.m. Thurs. Nov. 18, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale. The Rev. Michael Scheible will officiate. Music will be provided by St. Mary’s Choir and congregational singing. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rembs/Kudinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. A combined St. Mary’s Parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sylvester was born Aug. 2, 1930, in Marshfield, the son of Frank and Anna Unertl Haupt. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, Auburndale, and was a 1949 graduate of Auburndale High School. On June 19, 1951, he and Lois J. Bender were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale. Sylvester enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, friends and strangers alike, along with the water well industry, which he considered not just a career, but also a hobby. While still attending high school, Sylvester began his long career in the water well industry, working along side his father, Frank. Through the years he had the opportunity to work with his wife, brothers and his children as they owned and operated Haupt Well Drilling Inc. in Auburndale. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Christ the King Council No. 4646 of Junction City, the Auburndale Lions Club, the Wisconsin Water Well Association, of which he served as president in 1960, and the National Water Well Association. He is loving survived by his wife, Lois; and two sons and four daughters, Jeff (Diana) Haupt of Kronenwetter, Jalayne Haupt of Auburndale, Sara (Brad) Schecklman of Chili, Renee (Todd) Seidel of Colby, Amy (Dave) Seidl of Larsen and Scott (Renee) Haupt of Marshfield. He also is survived by nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Kyle, Briana, Jessica, Jordan, Melissa, Ciara, Logan and Zachary. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Dorothy (John) Steber of Marathon, Betty Zimmermann of Marshfield, Donald (Cherie) Haupt, Robert (Lydia) Haupt and David (Julie) Haupt, all of Auburndale, and a sister-in-law, Sally Haupt of Milladore. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister Mary Zopfi; and a brother, Edward Haupt. In lieu of flowers, the family will designate a memorial at a later date. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Reding, the Oncology Department and the entire staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital 8 North and the Palliative Care Unit. Also a heartfelt thank you to Eugene and Rita for their time and friendship. “When I was born I was crying and everyone was smiling – now everyone is crying but I’m smiling because I’m with the Lord.”
