Roland Alvin Venglar, age 83 of Wharton, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at his residence. He was born on February 7, 1923 in Fayetteville, Texas the son of the late Paul Peter Venglar and Carrie Cervenka Venglar. Roland "Alvin" Venglar was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and was a member of Wharton Knights of Columbus. Alvin served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Margaret Marie Scholz Venglar on November 21, 1949 in East Bernard and began working for the United States Postal Service. Alvin enjoyed gardening and his stained glass hobby and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A rosary service conducted by Grand Knight Glenn Erdelt of the Wharton Knights of Columbus will be held Wednesday March 8, 2006 at 7 pm from the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Joseph Vrana officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton. Mr. Venglar was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret Venglar, and sisters Wilma Strauss, Lydia Price, Martha Carter, Mildred Crosswell, and Annie Foyt.
