The Victoria Advocate, December 9, 2009: Mrs. Alice Pavlu, age 91, of Wharton passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in a Bay City nursing home following an extended illness. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening, Dec. 10, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Friends may call for visitation after 12 p.m. noon, Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Wharton Funeral Home. She is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Bay City Tribune, December 13, 2009: Mrs. Alice Pavlu, age 91, of Wharton, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, in a Bay City nursing home following an extended illness. She was born on February 7, 1918 in Culp, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Calvin Dixon and Grace French Dixon. Mrs. Pavlu has been a resident of Wharton for over 70 years and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She graduated from Eagle Lake High School in 1935. On September 21, 1936, Alice married Wencel John Pavlu in Eagle Lake and he preceded her in death on December 18, 1978. She was a member of the Holy Family Altar Society and served as the Holy Family School President. She was a homemaker, seamstress, loved to fish, garden, grow flowers, and enjoyed playing cards. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her son, Jimmie Pavlu, Sr., two sisters, and five brothers. A rosary was recited Thursday evening, December 10, 2009, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, with the Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her granddaughter, Jill Oates and husband, Kelly, of Austin; grandsons, Jimmie Pavlu, Jr. and wife, Gina, of Fulshear, Joel Pavlu of Bay City, and Ryan Pavlu of Rosenberg; great grandchildren, Chad Pavlu, Cameron Oates, Connor Oates, and Alana Oates, all of Austin. Pallbearers are Chad Pavlu, Cameron Oates, Connor Oates, Bob Fields, Ben Fields, and Jack Fields. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Fields and Robert Fields.
