Son of Thomas E. and Genivive (Tucker) Shelton, he was born in Atkinson, Neb. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army. Dean had three tours of duty in the Army between 1949 and 1968. It was during one of these tours he met his wife, Gerda (Niedentzal) Shelton. They had one son. Dean was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After recovering from his injuries, Dean worked at Hewlett-Packard until retirement. Dean loved his family, friends and country. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and his rose garden. He was an avid reader of history and the "old" West. Dean was a member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his son; his mother, Genivive Shelton of Loveland; sisters, Dixie Simon of Loveland and Cheryl Hyatt of Laramie, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1985, his wife, Gerda, in 2005, and a baby sister in infancy. www.allnutt.com
