Bio

HOUSLEY, Chester Vernon, 93, passed away July 22, 2012. Mr. Housley was born to John "Luther" Housley and Martha "Mattie" Beech Housley in Purvis, MS, Feb 10, 1919. He served with the 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army duing World War II, where he landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He worked for Gulf States Paper in Tuscaloosa for 30 years and attended Cottondale Church of Christ. After he retired, he moved to Montgomery to be with his children and worshipped with Eastern Meadows Church of Christ. He is known for his hard work ethic, being able to make biscuits better than most restaurants, his great sense of humor and his disdain for most vegetable-especially green beans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Gandy Housley; 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by three children, Charlotte (Jerry) Patterson, Sara Black and Steve (Tish) Housley, all of Montgomery; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Altom of Purvis, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, July 23, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home and his funeral will be on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Eastern Meadows Church of Christ Building Fund, Montgomery, Alabama. (Alabama Heritage Funeral Home obituary)
