Born in the village of Cernikov, town of Klatovy, county of Plzen, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). In his will (dated January 18, 1913, proved March 1, 1913) he left $50 to St. Joseph Orphanage, Lisle, Illinois; $50 to Hessoun's Bohemian Orphanage, St. Louis, Missouri; $50 to St. Thomas Catholic Orphanage, Lincoln, Nebr.; $50 to the Catholic Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumption at Dwight, Nebr.; $10 to his sister Mrs. Anna Janda at Cernikov, p Polen v Klatov, Bohemia, Europe; and divided the remainder of his estate among his four daughters Mary Hotovy (wife of John), Anny Fujan (wife of Joseph), Fanny Foral (wife of Frank), and Caroline Coufal (wife of Anton C.). He appointed John Hotovy, Joseph Fujan, Frank Fujan, and Anton C. '''''''''''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), February 13, 1913, p. 8, col. 3 & 4 Dwight. James Mikulas died at his home in Dwight Friday morning, Feb 7. He was 70 years of age. He is survived by five daughters and one brother. The funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, Dwight, Monday morning, Feb. 10, at 11 o'clock. Many friends and the Brainard band were in the funeral procession to the cemetery about half a mile from town. Joseph Mikulas, from Wilber, and J. Funyan, from Tobias, Neb., attended the funeral.
