EMANUEL KLUMPE A retired farmer and blacksmith, Emanuel Klumpe of Olpe, died Sunday at the Madison Manor nursing home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev Lambert Dannenfelset and the Rev. Ron Comeau, Mr. Klumpe's grandson, at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Olpe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church's renovation fund. Blair-Carlson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Klumpe was born May 2, 1893, at Abie, Nebraka, the son of Herman and Antonia Pohl Klumpe. He moved to Olpe community with his family from Hayes Center, Nebraska in 1915, when his father homesteaded four miles south of Olpe. In 1923, Emanuel Klumpe opened a black smith shop at Olpe, which he operated until 1940. He returned then to farming He and the former Anna Gertrude Burenheide would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary later this year. They were married in Olpe on October 12,1915. Mr. Klumpe was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Farm Bureau, all at Olpe. He was a church trustee for many years and did volunteer labor at the church and St Joseph's School. He is survived by his wife, who lives at the Madison Manor, two sons, Herman Klumpe of Olpe and Marvin Klumpe of Madison, four daughters, Leona Rossillon of Wichita, Catherine Comeau of Plainville, Bertha Kutz of Hayes Center, Nebraska and Arlene Williams of Leawood, a brother, Christopher Klumpe of Maywood, Nebraska, two sisters, Grace Burke of Bridgeport, Nebraska and Arlene McHugh of Boulder, Colorado, 21 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren and a great-greatgrandchild. His parents, a brother, Henry, two sisters, Anna Nitsch and Christine Lee, two grandchildren died earlier. Anna Gertrude Burenheide was born July 13, 1896 in Howells, Nebraska, daughter of Fred & Anna Linehurst Burenheide. Anna came to Kansas with her parents and family in 1906. Emanuel & Anna were united in marriage Oct 12, 1915 at Olpe (Kansas). They bought a farm four miles south of Olpe and farmed there until 1925 when Emanuel bought a blacksmith shop from Julius Drews. In 1926 the family moved to Olpe and Emanuel gave full time to operating the machine shop and rented the farm out. The family returned to farming in 1940 and Herman took over the machine shop which he presently operates. a new shop was built in 1945. Emanuel and Anna built a new home in Olpe in 1954 and semi-retired when Marvin married and purchased the farm. Emanuel has given much time and talent to the Olpe community throughout the years. He was the village blacksmith, an electrician, plumber and all around "fixit" man. He also spent many hours working for St. Joseph's Church and School. Rev. Stephen Lamping presented him with a Bible on March 1, 1952 for 25 years of loyal service to St. Joseph's Church. For many years, Emanuel was a Township Trustee, as well as assessor. He was mayor of Olpe in 1939. Their children are: Herman Olpe, KS Leona (Mrs. Victor Rossillon) , Wichita, KS Catherine (Mrs. Ralph Comeau) Plainville, KS Bertha (Mrs. Walter Kutz), Hayes Center, Nebraska Arlene (Mrs. Dwight Williams) Leawood, KS Marvin, Madison, KS Contributor: Lyfsgood (48260001)
