Wharton Journal-Spectator, December 7, 2005: Adolph A. Wobbe, age 87, of Pledger, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, in Wharton following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 3, 1918, in Nada, the son of the late Henry Wobbe and Elizabeth Boenisch Wobbe. Mr. Wobbe had been a resident of Pledger since 1978 and was a former resident of Wharton and Newgulf. He married Margaret Valencia Baca on June 25, 1946, in Wharton. Mr. Wobbe was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boling. Mr. Wobbe worked with Texas Gulf Sulphur Company for 32 years was a supervisor in the machine shop for four years before his retirement in 1984. He was also preceded in death by a brother Henry Wobbe in 1967. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Carlos Lynch officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with military graveside honors provided by American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wobbe of Pledger; sons and daughter-in-law, Bernie and Louise Wobbe of Richmond and Lloyd Wobbe of Pledger; sister, Ione Brown of Iago; grandchildren, Ryan Wobbe, Leann Wobbe, Michael Wobbe, Michelle Wobbe and Trina Wobbe. Pallbearers were John Ellis, Henry Brown, Raymond Brown, Frank Ellis, Ryan Wobbe and Henry Wobbe. Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Marshall, Tommy Hanks, Earl Harrell, Slim Harnden and Jamie Pugh. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, TX 77488.
