'''''''''''''''''''''' Seward Independent (Seward, Nebr.), May 31, 1950, p. 5, col. 6-8 JOSEPH HROMAS Joseph Hromas was born in Czechoslovakia on March 19, 1867. At the age of two he came to Omaha, Nebr., with his parents. Two years later the family homesteaded in Saunders county, where he spent his boyhood. He helped build the trans-continental railroad and later settled on a farm near Dwight, Nebr. In 1897, he was united in marriage to Mary Hain by Monsignor Klein, at Dwight in the school which served as a place of worship before the first Catholic church was built. In the fall of 1897, he became one of the charter members of the Catholic Cemetery association, and later of the church. In 1904, he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Garland. In 1937, he retired to Bee, where he passed away on May 20, 1950, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held on May 23 at 10 o'clock in the Saint Wenceslaus church of Bee, Nebr., with the Rev. M. Pazourek officiating. The deceased's grandsons, Edmund Hein, Gerald Kovar, Tommy Petak and Francis Kraus, assisted at the altar. Burial was in the Dwight cemetery, with grandsons Leo Hain, Laddies Prozak, Louis Strizek, Edward Kohout, Victor Kovar and Cyrill Kovar, serving as pall bearers. He leaves to mourn, his wife; nine daughters, Mrs. Anton Prazek (Jennie), Mrs. Leo Hain (Mary), Mrs. Frank Kovar (Barbara), Mrs. Ed Kohout (Fannie), Mrs. Louis Strizek (Blanche), Mrs. Emil Kraus (Josephine), Mrs. Cyrill Kovar (Bessie), Mrs. Anton Patak (Lillian), Mrs. Frank Kohout (Helen); also 43 grandchildren, and one great grandchild; one brother, two sisters; and a host of other relatives and friends. __ p. 8, col. 2 Card of Thanks We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and sympathy shown us during our bereavement, to all the relatives, neighbors and friends who assisted during the illness and death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, and also for the spiritual and floral offerings.
