Bio

Ludvik Hotovy, Sr., 85, of Dwight, died at Seward Saturday, May 6. He was born June 30, 1892, to Matt and Anna Urbanek Hotovy. He married Rose Heiman of Brainard on Feb. 28, 1927, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Brainard. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in February of 1977. He lived most of his life on the farm where he was born northwest of Dwight, the farm where his father pioneered in the late 1870's. After he retired from farming in 1959, the couple moved to Dwight, where they lived for the past 19 years. He was a lifelong member of the Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. All three of the Hotovy's sons served in the Navy during the Korean War. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, two sisters, and one son, Sylvester. Survivors include his wife, Rose; sons Ludvik, Jr., Leonard and Julius, all of Dwight; two daughters, Edith (Mrs. Leonard) Sisel and Arlene (Mrs. Dennis) Stastny, both of Bee; a brother, Mike, of Bee; sisters Stazie Lavicky of Dwight, Anna Dobesh of Seward, Rose Hofpar and Lillian Hotovy, both of David City; 20 grandchildren. Services were held May 9 at the Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight, Rev. Gerald Vap officiating. Con-celebrants were Rev. Clarence Reisdorff and Rev. Jerome Pokorny. Burial was in the Dwight Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Bob, Jerry, Mark and Bill Hotovy, and Steve and Scott Sisel.
