Bio

Roy Norman Burk, a retired educator, died Saturday, Jan. 9 [2010], in Snyder Healthcare Center. Funeral service for Mr. Burk, 77, is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday in the East Side Church of Christ with Wayne Horton, Steve Barrett and Tom Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens and arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Born May 11, 1932, in Hollis, Okla., he moved to Plainview at an early age and graduated from Plainview High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Centenary College in Shreveport and his master's degree from Texas A&M University. He married Janelle Mcfadden on Sept. 28, 1952, in Abilene. She died May 1, 1995. He married Geneva McKinley on June 13, 1998, in Snyder. A resident of Snyder since 1963, Mr. Burk was a science teacher at Snyder High School for 28 years. He was a member of Gideon's International, a member of the East Side Church of Christ and was active in the prison ministry for many years. He also was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings; and one grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Burk of Snyder; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ginger and Jake Banks of Midland, Kathi and Russell Ash of Big Lake and Cheryl Chandler of Midlothian; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cara Burk of Arlington and Donnie and Darlene Burk of Snyder; five stepchildren, David McKinley and Rickie Cantrell of Santo, Tommy McKinley of Fluvanna, Marsha Johnston of Snyder and Joan Williams of London, England; a sister, Ruth Ericksen of Arlington; 12 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
