Not totally certain on year of death, number slightly illegible George Parks, Sr. died at his home one mile east of Desoto, Dec[Jan]. 6th, and was buried at the Rawlins Cemetery on the [Jan] 7th. Rev. Bob Burleson, of Midlothian, conducted the funeral services. Mr. Parks was 81 years old on the 18 of Dec. last, being born in 1834 in Indiana. He came to Texas in 1848, reaching this place on April 1st. With his parents, he settled the old Parks Homestead which lies in the section forming the southeast corner of our little town. Since that time he has lived in this community, being absent only the four years when called away to do service as a soldier for the southland. He was in Stone's 2nd Regiment, company C under Captain R.S. Guy. He served as a private during the entire four years and was never wounded. He married Mary Isabel Jane Voorhies, who survives him. To this union, twelve children were born of whom nine are living. He became a member of the Baptist Church about twenty years ago and died in the faith of a risen Saviour. He is mourned and missed by the entire community. The Lancaster Herald, Vol. 29 No. 51, Ed. 1. Page 8 Friday 14, 1916
