Bio

---- From the Dannebrog News, July 20, 1916, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: News of Interest From Farwell - Prosperous Farmer Passes Away - As briefly stated in these columns last week, Joseph Francl went to Grand Island to be operated upon for appendicitis. The operation was a success but unavoidable complications set in after the operation and Mr. Francl passed out of this life on Monday, July 10, in the St. Francis hospital at Grand Island. The remains were shipped here Tuesday and the funeral services were held Wednesday at the Warsaw Catholic church and were conducted by Revs. Jarzemski of St. Paul and Jaszczynski of Posen. The corpse was met at the north end of our city by members of the local M.W.A. and A.O.U.W. lodges, of which the deceased was a member, and escorted through the city. The Tuma band furnished appropriate music while the procession passed through town. A very large number of friends and relatives accompanied the remains to the Warsaw cemetery where they were laid to rest. Following is the obituary of the deceased: Joseph Francl was born in Bohemia, Austria on Feb. 24, 1866, being at the time of his death a little over 50 years old. In Nov. of 1874 he, in company with his parents and brothers and sisters, came to this country, going direct to Lincoln, Nebr. From there they went to Crete where they spent the winter of '74 and '75. In July of '75 the Francl family came to Howard County. In the year of 1886 the deceased was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Anna Safarik who with the seven sons survive his loss. The sons are as follows: Edward of Palmer, Will and Joe of Kennard and James, Louis, Alfred and Vinc of this place. He also leaves two brothers and four sisters, namely: John of Farwell, Paul, Savannah, Mo; Mrs. John Pasdera of Elba, Mrs. Vodicka of Omaha, Mrs. James Hurt Sr. of Farwell and Mrs. Kasal of Ord. The deceased was one of our honest hard working farmers and was always kind and industrious and he numbered his friends by the hundreds. It was with sincere regret that the news of his death was received by his numerous friends. We desire to add our deepest sympathy and condolence to the bereaved ones during their hour of sorrow.
