Bio

Graduated from Creighton Medial College in Omaha, Nebraska in 1912 , and interned at St. Joseph's Hospital 1912-1913. He practiced as a country doctor in Bee, NE 1913-1917, Dorchester, NE, 1917-1919, and Clarkson, NE, from 1919 until his death in 1960. Obit: Dr. W. J. Kavan, the son of Philip and Mary Kavan, was born September 23, 1884, in Saunders County. He entered Fremont Normal School at the age of 15 and completed his requirements for a teacher's certificate at Peru State Teachers College. After teaching school near Falls City he attended Creighton School of Pharmacy, and graduated in 1908. Working as a pharmacist offered him the financial opportunity to attend Creighton Medical School at Omaha. He graduated in 1912 and interned at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha from 1912-1913. On June 1, 1914, he married Olla Barbara Kolarik of Crete. Three children were born, the eldest son, Loren, died in infancy. Dr. Kavan started his practice of medicine in Bee. NE, in 1913, and moved to Clarkson, then Dorchester in 1917. He was a member of the Colfax County Medical Society, which he helped organize in 1924 and served as secretary-treasurer. He belonged to the Nebraska State Medical Society and the American Medical Assn. Dr. Kavan suffered a heart attack August 11 and was taken to the Schuyler Memorial Hospital, where he died August 20, 1960. He is survived by his wife Olla, a son, Dr. Lucian Kavan, of Oklahoma City OK.;and a daughter, Mrs. Adrian Almquist of Valentine; three grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and Louis; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Anderson and Mrs. Blanche Bartek all of Wahoo. Funeral services were at Miller Funeral Home, Dr. John E, Filinger officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery at Crete. Pallbeareres were Louis Psotta, Alan Dusatko, Otto and Glen Sobesjavsky, Albin Petricek, and W. A. Karel. Tuck
