Thelma Williams O'Dell was born December 4, 1909 at Gang, MO in Shannon County, the daughter of Dock Goforth and Malissa (Mooney) Goforth. She entered into rest on July 26, 2007 at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 23 days. She was united in marriage to Otto Williams on November 21, 1926, and to this union, one son was born. Otto preceded her in death after 43 years of marriage on February 16, 1969. She later married Paul O'Dell on August 21, 1970 at Eminence, MO. Paul preceded her in death on August 28, 1989. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Otto and Paul; an infant son; five sisters, Gracie Prewett, Clara Wiggers, Elva Ferguson, Opal Dixon and Lena Goforth, and a brother, Raymond D. Goforth. Thelma is survived by her beloved foster daughter, Charlene Tweet; Charlene's two daughters, LaReva Osborne and Sharon Tweet; and her three grandchildren, TaSheena, LaRissa and Shantae Osborne; sister in-law, Pauline Goforth, of Eminence, MO; four nieces, Gladys Hodge and Fern Hunt of Eminence, MO, Reva Davis of Arkansas, and Loudean Knuckles of House Springs, MO; five nephews, Curtis Ferguson of Cortez, CO, Willis Ferguson of Colorado, Leemon Ferguson of Cortez, CO, Howard Ferguson of Winona, MO and Duane Goforth of Republic, MO; and a host of other friends and loved ones. Thelma and Ott were married in 1926 and their one son died at birth. She and Ott loved children and they helped raise her niece, Gladys Williams Hodge. When Gladys married, she had a daughter, Charlene Johnson Tweet. Thelma and Ott took on the role of foster parents for Charlene and loved her like their own. Thelma lived in the Eminence area for most of her life. She attended school at Simpson School at Blairs Creek. She loved to garden and work in the yard until her health failed. She always enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Thelma was active in the service of her Lord and Savior from a young age until age took its toll. She was of the Pentecostal faith and became a preacher at 19 years of age. She preached at brush arbors, schools and many places in the area. Thelma pastored the Union Church for many years until it closed. She also attended church at Winona and at Bethany Chapel until her health didn't allow her. Funeral Services were held Monday, July 30, 2007 at 10 AM at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, MO with Rev. Duane Goforth officiating. Interment was in New Eminence Cemetery at Eminence, MO under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.
