OBITUARY Louis Benson, 58 died Thursday evening at his home 1200 Carlisle Avenue. Mr Benson was born in Racine in 1878 and resided here all his life. Up to the time of his illness he had been employed by the Horlick Malted Milk Corp for more than 25 years. He was a member of the First Congregational church and had served as deacon. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No 92. Survivors are his wife one son Robert one daughter Mrs James Heibering and 2 grandchildren Marilyn Mae and Sally Jean Heibering. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pm in the Heibering funeral home Rev Clifford Earle officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Racine Journal Times, Friday Afternoon, February 5 1937 Notes-Louis left school after the fourth grade in order to work to help support his family along with his older brother William. Louis started working at Fish Brothers Wagon Works, horses and buggies were the main means of transportation. Louis stayed at the wagon works until he was in his late 20s. At that time he went to work at Horlick's Malted Milk Corp. He started out as a maintenance man and worked himself up to be one of the company's engineers. He worked at Horlick's for 25 years. His brother William was the plant manager. Louis and William helped their father Andrew build three houses one where Hazel and her brother Bob lived until they were married the address was 1200 Carlisle Avenue. The other two homes were for William and Henry. Louis was very musical he played in a band when young. He also played the piano by ear and had a good tenor voice. Louis and Ida won many waltz prizes.
