Bio

Warren B. Wise, 90, of Gibbon, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, April 8, 2013 at New Life Assembly in Kearney with Rev. Roger Wendt officiating. Interment with military rites by the Marine Honors Team and American Legion Post 59 will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway at 2 pm Monday. Warren was born Feb. 28, 1923 in Thedford to Albert Douglas and Josephine (Stinman) Wise. Warren was raised in the Callaway area, where he attended Callaway Public Schools through the ninth grade. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp in World War II at Ogden, Utah at the age of 19. He was stationed in Bremerton, Wash., and was a guard on Midway Island from 1942 to 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of corporal. After returning to Callaway, he met and married Margarette "Margie" Ash from Stapleton. They were married on June 12, 1946 in Oberlin, Kan. Warren was rehired by the Union Pacific Railroad in Bridger, Wyo. Warren worked his way up from section laborer to foreman of Indian Steel Gangs. Margie was a cook for the gangs and traveled with him to Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Kansas. He was also section foreman at Gibbon and retired in 1984, after being a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Ways Employees for 43 years. Warren was a member of American Legion Post 500 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759. He enjoyed making wooden railroad cars and wooden trucks. He also collected railroad cars. Survivors include his son, Brent (Mona) of Gibbon; grandsons, Jeff (Nancy) Wise of Gibbon and Rusty (Lisa) Wise of Holdrege; four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margie, on Oct.2, 2010; his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
