Amiel (A-mull) was a great guy! He was good natured and good willed. He was fun to know. He was born on the family farm near Morse Bluff to Amiel and Agnes (Kubr) Beranek. He remained a farmer all his life, and even in retirement was a farmer in his heart. But he was also into baseball! He loved the New York Yankees. Every time the Yankees won a game Amiel wore a NY Yankees shirt all day the next day. Friends didn't have to ask who won; they had only to look to see what shirt Amiel was wearing. Near the end of his life he got to go to New York and see a Yankees game; in fact, he got to throw out the first ball to open the game! Amiel married, first, to Mary Ann Degmetich on January 9, 1960 in Omaha. He and she had five children. But then Mary Ann was killed in an automobile accident on April 12, 1966. Though in great grief, Amiel continued to live on the family farm where, with the help of housekeepers and his mother, he raised his children. On his 66th birthday Amiel married Doris M. (Beranek) Mrsny in Fremont, Nebraska. But then, six year later, on May 23, 2000, Doris died of cancer. In 1984 Amiel moved to Fremont, and then in 2007 he moved to Pacific Springs Village, a retirement community in Omaha. Amiel loved to dance, play cards, garden, and coffee with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, and a sister, Adeline Odvody. He is survived by his children: Diane (& husband Tom Malesa of Winter Garden, FL and their son David; Carrie Beranek of Pine Bluff, AR; Rodney (& wife Janet of Fairbury, NE; Kenneth (& wife Debra) of Cedar Bluffs, NE; and Roger (& wife Amy) of Fremont…and brother Dennis (& wife Lucille) of Ashland, NE; and sister Geraldine Simanek of Wahoo, NE.
