Ida was born in North Prairie, Muscatine, Iowa. Her father, George, was a brick mason. Her parents were divorced by November 4, 1895, when her mother married Edmund D. Martin. Her father married Ellen Aurelia Lulu Revia July 14, 1903, in St Louis County, Missouri. She was living with her mother and her third husband, Arthur Craddock, who was a photographer in 1900. Her siblings, Benjamin and Katie were at home. She was working as dress maker. At the age of 20, she married Walter Bernette Frakes June 13, 1901, in Muscatine County, Iowa. They were living in a rented home with their children, Floyd and Edna, and her sister, Catherine. Walter and Catherine worked as factory laborers. They had lost their son, Walter Edmond Frakes, in 1907. She and Walter had moved to Portland, Oregon, by 1914. She was divorced by 1920 and living in a rented home with her daughter, Edna. She was working as an elevator operator. She had remarried by 1930, to Harry Munson Steevens (son of Sears Steevens (1823–1888) and Emma Bradley or Beatty (1850–1894) He was born October 14, 1881, in Michigan; died December 27, 1940 in Portland, Oregon). They were living in a $20 rented home. He was working as a shipping longshoreman. Her daughter, Edna was living next door working as a candy stringer. In 1940, she and Harry were renting a home for $12. Harry had completed 7th grade and Ida 6th grade. Neither of them were working. She was living in Long Beach, California, by 1948.
