Bio

Alice was the daughter of Jesse and Mary Matilda Ledbetter. When the family moved to Texas, her father became her schoolmaster. The young man who sat behind her; her tormentor who would dip her pigtails in ink, became her husband. Alice was the mother of one son and five daughters. She sang a song to her young children, "Sweet Bird" and this song was remembered for years to come. Alice died in the 1919 Flu Epidemic, leaving children ages three months to sixteen years. Those children and their children missed not having a mother or grandmother.
