Bio

Elizabeth "Nanny" Skrovan, 90, of Hillje, passed away on July 28, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 9, 1922 in El Campo to the late William George and Sophie Holub Schmidt. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and also involved with the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and KJT. Along with her husband, Clarence, they owned and operated Skrovan's Grocery and Market in Hillje for 45 years. The Louise-Hillje Chamber of Commerce recognized her as their 2010 Citizen of the Year. She was a business woman and entrepreneur, but her most cherished role in life was wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her loving family, beautiful home, and manicured yard were her most prized possessions. She will be remembered for her faith, her dedication to others, hard work, home cooked meals, and her delightful desserts. She is survived by daughters, Karen Elkins of Missouri City, Susan Ferguson and husband, Bill, of Houston, Jeanne Hubenak and husband, Ricky, of El Campo, Pamela Chromcak and husband, Greg, of Louise, Lanette Gresham and husband, Johnnie, of Louise; son, Pat Skrovan and wife, RoseAnn, of Austin; grandchildren, Michelle Townsend, Justin Geppert, Werth Garrett, Sara Garrett, Rachel Schoeneberg, Chelsea Hubenak, Christopher Chromcak, Jordan Gresham, and Lauren Gresham; great-grandchildren, Kirby, Kara, Kade, Kole, and Kiley Townsend, Jett and Jace Garrett, Levi and Layton Schoeneberg; brother, Norbert Schmidt of Richmond; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Nikki Skrovan of El Campo; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Skrovan; daughter, Mary Ann Skrovan; and brothers, Johnnie and Bill Schmidt. Visitation will be from 2 pm until 5 pm on Monday at Triska Funeral and 6 pm until 7 pm at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje. A parish rosary will be at 7 pm on Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje, with Rev. Clement Quainoo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Ferguson, Greg Chromcak, Johnnie Gresham, Ricky Hubenak, Jeff Garrett, Justin Geppert, Werth Garrett, Christopher Chromcak, Jordan Gresham and Steven Townsend. Memorials in her memory may be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Houston Hospice-El Campo, or to the donor's favorite charity. She is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed but she leaves a legacy of a life well lived and loving memories to her family and friends.
