Bio

Loretta Ann was born April 5, 1931 in Columbus, Nebraska to Milo and Christie (Parolek) Shonka. She grew up on a farm with three sisters near Schuyler. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1949. On March 1, 1954 she married Arnold Tuma. To that union was born six children. Loretta was a partner in marriage as well as playing an integral role in the daily farming operation. She was involved within the community, Wilson Church, and St. Augustine's Catholic Church for many years. She took an active role in the Wilson Extension Club and Little Flower Altar Society at St. Augustine's. Loretta enjoyed sewing clothes, making quilts and crafts of all kinds. She took personal pride in expanding her wardrobe by sewing clothes that no store could compare to. She made special quilts for each family member as they progressed through different stages of their life. She collected ceramic birds. Her nurturing side was evident with her flower and vegetable gardens. Anyone passing by on the road couldn't help but notice the effort, talent and love that she put forth in beautifying their home. When people would come over for visits, as they would walk around and look at the flowers, mom had a story behind each one of the flowers, and if they were planted with somebody in mind. Another joy mom liked was going for walks with their faithful dog Sherman (Smile- almost like a family member). Loretta's greatest passion in life was spending time with her family. She was a truly dedicated mother and wife. Her giving, kind heart and warm smile will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Son Mark in 1982, and sister Angie Kruger. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arnold of Schuyler.
