Bio

David P. Shoemaker, 67, of Ord, NE. died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Valley View Living Center in Ord, NE. after a courageous battle with ALS. David was born June 15, 1945, at Ord, NE. to Alfred P. and Neola I. (Lenker) Peyton Shoemaker. Survivors are: wife, Justine Shoemaker of Ord; daughter and son-in-law, Bethanne and Adam Kunz of Ord; son and daughter-in-law, Austin and Angela Shoemaker of Lincoln; brother, Kenneth Peyton of Arcadia; granddaughters, Haley Kunz, and Hannah and Harper Shoemaker. David was raised in the Springdale area of Valley County. He attended Sumter Elementary School and graduated from Ord High School in 1963. David continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967, and a Masters Degree in Genetics in 1972. David married Kathleen Hanna in 1969, at Anselmo. They were blessed with two children, Bethanne and Austin. From 1967 until 1971, David taught Agriculture at Sargent and Ord Schools. He also farmed part-time and raised cattle and sheep. In 1972, David began farming and ranching full time. On June 1, 1997, David and Justine Sich were married at Ord. The couple made their home on the farm in the Springdale area. David was a member of the Ord First United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Pastor-Parish Committee. He also served on the NRD Board and was a member of the AGS Fraternity at UNL. His hobbies were caring for the livestock and farming. He also enjoyed playing the accordion. David was preceded in death by: parents; and brother, Leroy Peyton. Interment was in the Ord City Cemetery, Ord, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on July 19, 2012
