Bio
Kenneth L. Peyton, 79, of Arcadia passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Health System Hospital in Kearney. Mr. Peyton's wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth was born June 28, 1934, at Burwell, Nebraska to Lewis and Neola (Lenker) Peyton. He was raised in the Burwell area and received his education at Burwell at the Faimon Reijda School. Kenneth's parents divorced and his mother remarried Alfred shoemaker and they lived in Mira Valley south east of Ord. Kenneth married Selma Ann Weburg in June of 1953, they divorced after 7 ½ years of marriage. He later married Marilee Rhinehart on June 19, 1961 at Ord. The couple first made their home at Prague, NE where Ken worked on different construction jobs. They later moved to Cozad where he where he owned the Texaco Service Station, he had also worked at Monroe's and also lived in Eustis for a short time, eventually moving back to the Mira Valley area. For a time he worked in the oil fields of Gillette, Wyoming. He started Peyton Trucking, and after selling his trucking business he worked at the Felco station in Scotia, Nebraska for a number of years while living in North Loup. In 1975, he moved to Ashton, Nebraska where he continued to work for area farmers. For five years he operated a 14D Caterpillar maintainer for two townships in Sherman County and then went on the road with a construction company. Ken retired in July of 1996, and worked part time for Tom Bandur and David Shoemaker. He loved to hunt and fish, and spend time outdoors. Survivors include six children, Kristine Koch of Des Moines, Iowa, Kassandra Griffis of Carthage, Missouri, Kevin Griffis of Pleasanton, Nebraska, Kenneth "Chuck" Peyton of Grand Island, Nebraska, Kerry Peyton of Sparks, Nevada, and Kyla Weverka of Arcadia, Nebraska; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Leah George of Arcadia, Nebraska. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilee; a son, Stephen Lerdall and two brothers, David Shoemaker and Leroy Peyton.
