Salina Journal September 3, 1983 Mrs. Charles Kieffer CLYDE - Mrs. Sophia M. Kieffer, 85, Clyde, died Thursday at the St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia. She was born Jan. 4, 1898, at Prum, Germany. She was a homemaker. She and her husband, Charles, moved in 1921 from Germany to Clyde. Mrs. Kieffer was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Clyde. Her husband died in 1962. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Cecelia Axtell, Denver; Mrs. Rosemary Madden, Dallas, and Mrs. Margaret Caldwell, Clifton; five sons, Lawrence, Marysville; Herbert, Denver; Albert, Concordia; and Waifred and Edward, both of Wichita; a brother, Matthias Mathony, Prum, Germany; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde; the Revs. Henry J. Kieffer, Placidus Kieffer and Roger Hough officiating. Burial will be in the. Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, where friends may call.
