Bio

William Wesley Burr, 93, passed away June 16, 2012 in Houston. William was born in Canon City, Colorado, but moved to Texas as a child. He attended Odem High School, in Odem, Texas. After his graduation from high school Bill joined the U.S. Navy. Bill married about the time he joined the Navy in Corpus Chrisiti, and had three children. He went to flight school in Iowa State, and later he went to Anchorage, Alaska. After four years in the Navy, he joined Texaco as a Geophysicist, where he remained for 38 years. Bill married a second time to Alvinia Zievert, and they were married for 43 years. After his time with Texaco he formed his Geophysical Consulting Firm. After many successful years he decided to take time for some R & R. His activities were full-time tennis and of course playing pool in his home with his tennis buddies. When he was a young man he had an avid interest in photography and had a small studio in his home. Bill could sell refrigerators to Eskimos. He never knew a stranger, reaching out to all in his lifetime, labeled a character and known by many as "Wild Bill". One of his many hobbies was tinkering on cars with his son, who loved cars. Bill had a love for people, animals, laughter and life in general. Bill is preceded in death by his son, Keith Wesley Burr and granddaughter, Tiffany Savage. He is survived by wife, Alvinia Burr; daughter, Terri Wilson; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Charles Lund; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Steve Grohman; grandsons, Matthew Savage and Paul Grohman; great grandson, Jacob Savage; and a long list of friends all of whom loved him and his passion for laughter. A viitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012 in the Miller Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m., with Chaplain Jim Barclift officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in Taft Memorial Cemetery in Taft, TX In lieu of flowers, the family graciously suggests that memorial contributions be made to Houston Hospice.
