Shoemaker was born March 9, 1906 on the family homestead southeast of Ord to Jacob and Rosalie Soppelsa Shoemaker and died January 16, 1979 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord at the age of 72. His early life was spent on the family farm where he attended rural school at District 64. He had spent all of his life farming near his birthplace until his retirement in 1970 when he moved into North Loup. Edward was united in marriage to Ruth Honeycutt August 28, 1930 at Greeley. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of North Loup; one son, Ronald and wife, Beverly of North Loup; one daughter-in-law, Martha Shoemaker of North Loup; four granddaughters; four grandsons; two great granddaughters; two great grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Hilma Young of Ord; and one brother, Alfred Shoemaker of North Loup. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one grandson. Memorials may be given in his memory to the Heart Fund or the North Loup United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 20, 1979 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church in North Loup with Rev. Ruth Moorer officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup with the Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
