Chuck Callender (1920-2012), loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away quietly in his sleep on May 17, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Lena; his daughter, Linda, of Fairbanks, Alaska; his son, Don and his wife, Sara, of Colorado Springs; five loving grandchildren; and one great-grandson in Colorado Springs. Chuck was a long time Mount Vernon resident, moving here in 1960 as the US Army recruiter. He then worked for Gearhart Ford many years. He was active in many volunteer and service goups before and after retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Red Cross, Past Master of Mt. Baker Masonic Lodge #36, Skagit Valley Search and Rescue, the Skagit Valley Amateur Radio Club and many other organizations. He was always proud of his time served in the US Army, during WWII and Korea. Earning many commendations including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Unit Silver Stars. Chucks final wish was to be scattered into Deception Pass so he could be in the most beautiful place on earth forever. He also requested no services be performed.
