Greenville (Texas) Herald Banner, Tue, 4 Apr 1978, page A2, Deaths, Edwards QUITMAN - O.R. (Roy Edwards) (sic) of Quitman, a former Greenville resident, died Monday morning at his home suddenly. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church of Quitman. Burial will be in East Mount Cemtery (sic) in Greenville. Mr. Edwards was raised in Greenville and was employed as office manager for Shireys for about 10 years. Surviving are two sons, Roy Edwards Jr. of Dallas and Jerry Edwards of Honolulu, Hawaii, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Edwards, in 1956. Graveside services are set for 2:30 p.m. in Greenville at the East Mount Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Reed officiating. Mr. Edwards died Monday at his home in Quitman. He was 80 years old. He was born July 8, 1897 in Newton County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a retired credit manager at Shirey’s and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He served as tax assessor-collector for Hunt County from 1944-1946. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Quitman and served as a deacon. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include two sons, Roy Edwards, Jr. of Dallas and Jerry Edwards of Honololu, Hawaii; two brothers, Hardy Edwards of Dublin and James Edwards of Lubbock; one sister, Vencie E. Taylor of Seattle; six grandchildren and several neices (sic) and nephews. Pallbearer will include J.M. Taylor, J.A. McCarley, W.A. Bouden, Rayford Sikes, B.D. Holley and Bryan Sands. The Cain Funeral Home is in charge of kqneral (sic) arrangements.
