Funeral services for Major Jerry A. Edwards 76 Quitman are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday April 18, 2014, Lowe Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes, Quitman with Brother Daniel Compton and Reverend James Nickell officiating. Burial will follow in Quitman City Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday evening April 17th at Lowe Funeral Home. Jerry was born November 4, 1937 in Greenville, TX to Ollie Roy and Mary Pauline Wright Edwards and passed away at his home in Quitman April 15, 2014. He was a USMC Major and retired from the USMC after serving his country 20 years. His second career was serving his local community as the Executive Director of the Mineola Housing Authority for 30 Years, President of the Wood County Historical Society, City Councilman, Wood County Emergency Management Plan developer, First Baptist Church choir member and cherished Song Leader at the Heritage Nursing Home for many years. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Roy Jr. Edwards. He is survived by his wife Pilar Edwards, Quitman and their three children, Vanessa Lynn and her husband Dan Floyd, Houston, Mary Pauline and her husband Daniel Compton, Bealeton, VA, and Oliver Lee and his wife Sharon, and their two children-prized grandchildren- Luke and Lauren. He is also survived by two cousins Mary Edwards McCowan, Lubbock and William Edwards, Phoenix, AZ.
