Scotia Register, Scotia, Nebraska, December 16, 1971: Floyd Vance Floyd Vance Rites Held Saturday Floyd Vance, 58, died at St. Paul, Wednesday evening. He and Mrs. Vance were attending the annual Christmas party for employees and their wives and/or husbands, when death unexpectedly claimed him. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Scotia United Methodist church, with the Rev. Leonard S. Clark officiating. “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by DeWayne Bussell, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. M. G. Williams. Pallbearers were Horace Williams, Donald Hughes, Irvin Hermsmeyer, Mervin Winter, Don Patrick and Victor Morrow. Honorary pallbearers were Laverne Jess, Floyd Clement, Fred Meyer, Ted Meyer, Leroy Yax and Glen Morrow. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, with the Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Floyd W. Vance, son of John and Mary Clement Vance, was born Feb. 13, 1913, at Scotia, Nebr., and departed this life very unexpectedly Dec. 8, 1971, at St. Paul, Nebr., at the age of 58 years, nine months and 25 days. His early education was received in a rural school. He attended the Scotia high school from which he was graduated in 1930. On Nov. 9, 1935, he was united in marriage to Elsie Fillinger at St. Paul, Nebr. In 1940 he was employed by the Loup Valley Co-op Oil Co., and for the past 24 years has served as its manager. Floyd has been active in civic and community activities having served as Mayor for several years, a member of the city board, a member of the fire department, Scotia Community Club, and Scotia United Methodist church. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife, Elsie; one son, Darrel, of Scotia; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Brown of Malcolm, Nebr.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Murl Vance and John Jr., both of Elm Creek, Nebr.; and one sister, Mrs. Millie Findley of Grand Island, Nebr. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.
