Bio

Great Falls Tribune (MT), 5 Dec 1930: Peter Rush Aided in Construction of First Falls Hotel Peter Rush of Power, who died last week and was buried in a local cemetery this week, was one of the state's pioneers, arriving at Fort Benton by boat in 1878. Upon his arrival in the state 52 years ago he worked in a sawmill and later was a freighter between Fort Benton and Great Falls. Mr. Rush hauled logs for the first Park hotel, which was replaced several years ago by the present building. Mrs. Rush recalls her husband telling of the opening of the old building on Thanksgiving day. It was a big celebration, she said, but there was a shortage of turkey, the roads being almost impassable and the mercury standing around 22 degrees below zero. For several years Mr. Rush conducted a livery stable and each fall did considerable threshing for local ranchers. From 1884 until 1914 he was a miner in the Neihart country, moving to the Power area in 1914 to engage in ranching, where he resided until his death. On Nov. 7, 1892, he was married to Agnes J. Brennen of Neihart, who survives him. While there were two children, only one is living, a son, Arthur Leo having passed away in 1917. Mrs. Joseph F. Murphy of Billings, a daughter, survives her father. Others surviving besides the widow and daughter are a sister, Mrs. Anna Donegan of North Platte, Neb.; a brother, Arthur Rush of North Platte; three grandchildren at Billings, and a cousin, Frank Rush, of Belt.
