GREELEY - Lyle T. "Ike" Kelly, 89, of Greeley, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Revs. Ted Nekoliczak and Donald Buhrman will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Greeley American Legion Charles E. Martin Post 186. T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Lyle Thomas was born April 30, 1923, on the family farm northwest of Greeley to John J. Sr. and Ann M. (McGowen) Kelly. He was raised on the farm, attended rural school at District No. 19 and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1941. In 1943, Ike joined the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Greeley. On July 12, 1949, Ike was united in marriage to Lorraine "Shootzie" Nekoliczak at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The couple made their home and farmed west of Greeley. After retirement, they moved into Greeley. Ike was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included playing cards, sports and fishing. He and Shootzie especially enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lorraine "Shootzie" of Greeley; two daughters, Becky Kelly and Margaret Mary Kelly; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Ellen Kelly; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Father Ted Nekoliczak, Louis Nekoliczak and Joe and Corrine Nekoliczak; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Charles, Johnny, Lawrence, Gerald, Harold and Patrick Kelly; and two sisters, Monica Crockett and Marie Naiman.
