Bio

Della was born on the Phelps farm in LeRoy township. She went to school in Lake County and worked as a licensed practical nurse. She married John Cassutt in January of 1937 in Watertown, SD. They lived on N. Harth in Madison all their married life. Della's mother, Augusta, lived with them until her death. Della and John were generous donors to General Beadle Teacher's College/Dakota State University over the years. She was an Outstanding Alumnus of the university. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and active in the Altar Society. Della had two sisters, Stella (Phelps) Schrader, and Mabel (Phelps) Oium Marquart, and one brother, Ervin Herman Phelps.
