John L. Steinbach, 82, of Wahoo, formerly of rural Malmo, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. He was born June 23, 1929, in Prague to Joseph and Rose (Polacek) Steinbach. He attended country school District 51 through the eighth grade and later graduated from Prague High School. He married Joan Pospisil on Oct. 11, 1949, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He farmed until joining the U.S. Army on Jan. 26, 1954. He served for almost two years and was honorably discharged Dec. 1, 1955. He resumed farming on the family farm near Malmo. He also worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Lincoln for 10 years. He retired from farming in the early 1990s. After his wife died in 2007, he lived in Prague and then at The Legacy in Lincoln before moving to South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, the Saunders County Livestock Feeders Association and American Legion Post 254 of Prague, and was a former member of American Legion Post 308 and Mid-America Dairyman Association. Survivors include: two sons, Tom (Jane) Steinbach and Ted (Holly) Steinbach; three grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Janecek of Weston; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, two infant sons, one infant daughter, two brothers, and two sisters. The funeral will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague, with the Rev. Ronald Homes officiating. Interment will be in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Plasi, with military honors by American Legion Post 254. Memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church or Prague Fire and Rescue Department. Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo is in charge of arrangements.
