Bio

Melba "Jimmie" Mitchell, 92, of Nocona, Texas, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Nocona General Hospital. She was born October 11, 1917 in Athens, Texas, daughter of the late Daniel Ambers Smith and Mary Ellen Cox Smith. Mrs. Mitchell was reared and received her early education in Athens, Texas, graduating from Athens High School. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. "Jimmie" Smith married Travis Clyde Mitchell, II April 3, 1937 in Athens, Texas. He preceded her in death March 12, 1986. Survivors include her daughter, Suzan Procell and her husband, J.E., of Nocona, Texas; son, Travis Clyde Mitchell, III of Hot Springs, Arkansas; brother, U.L. Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Mike Snell officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
