Edward Joe "Ed" Jecha, 80, died May 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 16, 1926, in rural Rush Center, the son of Joe Edward Jecha and Anna (Oborny) Jecha. He married Rosarie Baxa on May 4, 1948, in Belleville. A lifelong resident of Rush County, Jecha was a 1944 graduate of La Crosse High School and received his certificate for the completion of the electronics course from The DeVry Technical Institute. He worked at the Timken State Bank, later becoming a licensed television serviceman and serving as Timken City Clerk and water person for 27 years. In 1989, he retired from serving as a rural mail carrier. Jecha was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken and was a past board member for the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2100 in Olmitz; Catholic Workman Lodge and life member and past adjutant for American Legion Post No. 353, both in Timken; and was a member and past leader of Recovery Inc. in Great Bend. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Thomas E Jecha of Viola and Edward F. Jecha of Hutchinson; five daughters, Cecilia J. May of Lawrence, Margaret M. Waterman of Bonaire, Ga., Mary E. Casselman of Arlington, Texas, Rita J. Andress of Great Bend and Jane M. Jacobs of Garden City; a sister, Blanche A. Tomecek of Timken; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Joseph V. Jecha. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken with the Revs. Henry Baxa, Jack Cuddigan, Charles Mazouch and Ultan Murphy officiating.
