Bio

Joseph Beran was born May 24 1871 in Sobekury, Bohemia, Austria to Bartholomew and Anna Beran. When he was 16 yrs old his Mother sent him to the U.S. with his sister, (Mary) to avoid the draft there. Since all boys at sixteen were automathically drafted into the army under Germany's rule. They came directly to Valley County. In Oct 1892 he married Veronica Petska and they started farming in the Geranium area. During the time they lived in the Geranium township he helped with the building of the Catholic church there. Later he helped with the building of the Catholic church in Ord. Seven children were born to them, Joseph, John, Edward, Frank, Will, Agnes and Lillian.
