Emil J. Navrkal, 81, of David City died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln. He was born June 1, 1930, in Jackson to Frank and Julia (Chalupa) Navrkal. He graduated from Jackson High School and served in the U.S. Army. He married Elaine Bates on Oct. 18, 1951, in Jackson. They lived in Hubbard, Omaha and retired to David City. He worked for the Continental Can Company of Omaha and was a member of the Jackson American Legion. His wife preceded him in death in 2008. Survivors include: a son, Randy (Linda) Navrkal of Polk City, Iowa; four daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Thomm of Monroe, Wis., Vicki Stastny of David City, Cheryl (Nick) Schmit of Bellwood and Kim (Gary) Meister of David City; four brothers, Ernest (Stella) Navrkal of Sioux City, Iowa, Frank (Lois) Navrkal of Lawton, Iowa, Ray (Dorothy) Navrkal of Jackson and Melvin (Jennifer) Navrkal of Wakefield; three sisters, Katherine (Ken) Hoffman of Westfield, Iowa, Julie Ann Uhl of Sargent Bluff, Iowa, and Irene (Jim) Uhl of Frazee, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood with the Rev. Jay Buhman officiating. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City with a rosary service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.
