SEYMOUR — Helen Lee Portwood, 82, of Wichita Falls died Friday, May 4, 2012, in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour with Bob Balch and Michael Styles officiating. Services are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home of Seymour. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Seymour and was attending the Texhoma Cowboy Church in Wichita Falls. Helen Lee was born on September 13, 1929, in Seymour to Harry H. and Mary Helen Portwood. She graduated from Seymour High School and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She married Bill Emerson in Seymour and had one daughter, Lee Ann Emerson Swanzy, who passed away July 1, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Paula Brookerson on March 9, 2003; and her cousin, Jerry Ann Portwood Taylor on February 29, 2012. She is survived by a granddaughter, Sara Swanzy; and a great-grandson, Christopher Devon; and her cousins, Dannie Mary Hargrave Shawver, Sammie Ann Portwood Morris, Sandra Portwood Estrada, Harley Portwood and Linda Jo Rounsville. Helen was a ranch owner in Baylor, Archer, Throckmorton, Knox and Clay counties. She had lived on the ranches and in Houston, New York, Seymour and the last number of years in Wichita Falls. She was an excellent horse woman and was one of the Evert Colborn Production Rodeo Glamour Girl's Flag Bearers for many large shows in the 50's. Helen had a lovely singing voice and sang professionally in New York for a short time. She also was a painter of western art. She loved her animals and her yard, where she spent many hours. Survivors include one granddaughter and one great-grandson. The family will be at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday for visitation.
