Obit-Gonzales Inquirer May 27, 1949 Mrs. Lydia Sauer Dies at Her Home Mrs. Lydia Pagel Sauer died at her home in the Five Mile Community Friday May 27, at 7:45 a.m. Services will be held from the Seydler funeral home Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. William Loeske, pastor of the Lutheran church, officiating. Interment will be in the City cemetery. Mrs. Sauer was born in Lavaca county on May 25, 1865. She had just passed her 84th birthday. In 1882 she was married to Carl Sauer and to them six children were born all of whom survive. They include four sons, William of Woodsboro, Oscar and August of Gonzales, and Albert of San Antonio, two daughters, Mrs. O. G. Ahrens, Gonzales, and Mrs. William Rokohl of Stockdale. Fourteen grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A life long member of the Lutheran church, her entire life had been spent in Texas. Her parents, August and Mary Pagel, were natives of Germany . She was preceded in death by her husband who died February 24, 1941.
