SILVERTON — L.B. "Beefie" Garvin, 82, died Sunday, April 29, 2012. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Silverton. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Silverton. L.B. was born June 9, 1929, to L.B. "Dick" Garvin Sr. and Verna Mae Poole Garvin. He was born in Silverton and grew up there. After graduating from high school in 1948, he went to business school in Lubbock, then to Texas Tech University. He married LaRue Gilkeyson on Aug. 3, 1951. They were married for 60 years. L.B. was a farmer and he loved his occupation. He served many years on the Silverton School Board. He was a county commissioner for Briscoe County as well as a charter member of the Briscoe County Appraisal District. He served as a board member of the Plainview Federal Land Bank. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Silverton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Billy Wayne Garvin. Survivors include his wife, LaRue Garvin; a son, Lane B Garvin and wife Paula of Silverton; a daughter, Danna Coleman of Wellington; four grandchildren, Kayla Hansen and husband Paul of Shamrock, Brooke Whitworth and husband Max of Wichita Falls, Kurby Mitchell and husband Brandon of Silverton, and Zack Coleman and Rodney Mestas, both of Wellington; five great- grandchildren, Acylynn and Kory Coleman, Landry Whitworth, Baron Mitchell and Ansylee Hanson; and a brother, Kenneth Garvin and wife Lena of Petrolia.
